Any color digital photograph can be converted to black and white. Some photos convert to black and white better than others. High contrast photos are easier to convert than low contrast photos. However, there are methods that will convert low contrast images.
Not all photographs look good in black and white. For example, this photograph doesn't look very good in black and white.
It's hard to see the statue againsts the background in the black and white photograph. The statue becomes the same shade of gray as the building. Conversion Theory explains why.
In some photographs the subject may not be suitable in black and white. For example, it's possible to convert this photo into black and white. The question is, why would you want to? Be selective about which photographs you convert. The first question you should ask when converting a photograph is: "Do I want to convert this photograph?"
